Martina Roos

About

Location : Australia
Whether inspired by the sheer beauty of nature or urban surrounds, ArtsHub describes Martina's work as "vibrant and expressive", as she strives to use colour, design, rhythm and texture as the means of expression by seeking out the detail presented in the naturally occurring shapes, patterns and colours of the subject, thereby reducing it to its essence.

Using abstract expressionism as an attitude, whereby the true visual representation of an object is not her solitary consideration, Martina is more importantly concerned with her subconscious and uninhibited emotional response to the stimuli, thereby emphasising an artist's liberty to convey attitudes and emotions in all its ambiguity and contradiction through non-representational means. It is not about reading the narrative but rather reacting to it. Martina seeks to capture a moment in time, a place or an ambience that holds significance to her and in turn evoke an emotional response from the viewer.

Working in a variety of media, the canvas is a record of Martina's experience with the medium and colour as she employs bold, rich colours and spontaneous brushstrokes to create an emotional tableaux in an abstract expressionist manner.

Martina's work is held in private collections both here and overseas.

Education
Martina graduated from The University of Sydney with a Bachelor of Arts in Fine Arts, Archaeology and Aesthetics and went on to study for a Masters in Classical Archaeology. With a keen interest in all forms of art, Martina also studied Gallery Management, attended The Centre for the History of the Decorative Arts and accepted an invitation to study with Sotheby's in London.
